In engineering, manufacturing refers to the application of physical and chemical processes to alter the geometries, shape, properties and appearance of a starting material in order to make and assemble it into a product. It is not only the material, but also the process that actually determines the shape and microstructure of a component, and in turn, the overall properties of the material.
