students dont make it worry. Here is my list of 10 reason, which I tell anyone who ask my opinion about learning Java, and whether Java is best programming language in terms of opportunities, development and community support.
1) Java is Easy to learn
2) Java is an Object Oriented Programming Language
3) Java has Rich API
4) Powerful development tools e.g. Eclipse , Netbeans
5) Great collection of Open Source libraries
6) Wonderful community support
7) Java is FREE
8) Excellent documentation support - Javadocs
9) Java is Platform Independent
10) Java is Everywhere
Hence, I would recommend you to firstly read what exactly is static languages, what are dynamic languages. Then learn one static language. I would recommend you to learn Java. Do not focus on syntax, focus on static features and object-oriented principles of Java. Then move to PHP, learn dynamic features of PHP and try to understand how those dynamic features help you over static languages. Try to figure out which language is best-suited for which conditions.
Do not focus on languages, instead focus on concepts. Target concepts like static features, dynamic features, object-orientation. Once you know these concepts, you can consume any languages with minimum efforts. You can easily learn any languages as you already know the concepts and you only have to learn the syntax of that language.
Every company prefers flexible candidate with good concepts than candidate with only one programming language knowledge.
Hope it helps.
